Harold L. Monahan was born on July 30, 1923. Monohan was assigned to the 357th Fighter Squadron, 355th Fighter Group in 1944. During his stay in this unit, he won 2 confirmed victories in air combat and destroyed 2 aircraft. On September 12, 1944, he took part in a Ramrod mission on Brux in Czechoslovakia. The American formation was intercepted at 11:45 am at Lake Muritz. Lieutenant Monohan destroyed an Fw 190 in air combat. On October 7, he took part in a Ramrod mission on synthetic fuel plants in the Ruhr. He managed to shoot down an Fw 190 in the Liepzig area around 1310 and then destroy an Me 109 on an airfield on the way back. After destroying a last aircraft on the ground on 2 November, he was killed in action on 25 December 1944 at the helm of P-51D (44-15334) OS B. He was last seen by Lt Iglesias south of Koblenz , chasing a Fw 190. He is now buried in Highland Cemetery, Norwood, Norfolk County, Massachusetts, USA.
